How Can Recovery Help Me Become More Valuable to an Employer?

For individuals recovering from addiction and alcoholism, one of the best ways to build value to an employer is to be engaged in some form of recovery. By “engaged in recovery,” I mean being active in any process that helps you connect with others, so you are not trying to manage not using substances on your own. The opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety, it’s connection. These connections will help keep you on the right track.

If you are engaged in recovery, it is much more likely that your life will be stable and not filled with chaos. That stability will make you less likely to relapse, miss work, and be more likely to be a good, valued employee. All of these things will lead to your being viewed favorably by your employer, making it easier for you to excel and advance in your career.
